Studio Work

Our studio is the place where everything happens. It is a platform for free exploration and discovery. In it we have come upon new concepts and forms, and so, it is the magical place where a concept becomes what it needs to be.

Our studio work is the art we create with absolute autonomy. It is the result of many questions and often, it is the only way to understand a concept. One work of art always leads to another, with urgency, and this is how so many of our series come about.

As sculptors, we accompany an artwork from its conceptual existence to its physical manifestation. Through the fabrication process of each sculpture, we revisit the idea a hundred times and try to reproduce the vision in our minds. The process of modeling or carving the sculpture provides a time to contemplate the work and listen to where it wants to go. There are technical challenges that get in the way, and there are natural obstacles -like the veins on a stone or the knots on wood, that can be challenging and frustrating. Some sculptures take weeks and some years. On occasion, the completion of a work can be so overwhelming that it pulls us down on our knees.
