Structure Series

The structure series is the result of the study and years-long fascination with skeletal systems. The beauty, complexity and functionality of the skeletal system has impacted my work and inspired me to make sculptures that are divided into several parts that assemble perfectly to create movement and equilibrium. I am fascinated by the way the individual parts of the skeletal systems are natural processes that hold innate mechanical perfection, essential to optimizing the efficiency of the movement and function. Through my work, I have identified these systems as the origin of the machine.

In large public work, I have revisited this concept to explore how a sculpture can physically change its formal composition when it is fragmented and placed on an irregular terrain or surface. The adaptation of the sculpture to the surface impacts the work.

The sculptures in the structure series are made in many different materials and combination of materials and can be taken apart and put back together again.
