Nexus is part of a series of works resulting from my fascination with skeletal systems. The beauty, complexity and functionality of the skeletal system has impacted my work and inspired me to make sculptures that are divided into several parts that join to form a whole. I was exploring the principle of movement and equilibrium when I made this sculpture.
Nexus is an abstract exercise that mimics nature in the way different elements can come together to form an efficient and beautiful system. I designed this sculpture with the idea of simplifying the form without altering the efficiency of the movement. I designed each part individually so that the sculpture can be taken apart and put back together again. Like the skeletal systems, the different parts of the sculpture articulate with each other, and the design of the joints contribute to the equilibrium and functionality of the sculpture.
